Accept and Conquer

I choose to accept the limitations I have, but I choose to not accept the limitations I have. What the heck does that mean? Never give up or give in! Choose to have a powerful, positive perspective. This enhances your brain function and changes the landscape of your thoughts and brain, according to Dr. Caroline Leaf’s book, “Switch On Your Brain.” You may not change the disease but you can change how you deal with it. It does not define who you are. I have Multiple Sclerosis, but Multiple Sclerosis does not have me! I choose to make an effort and push through the limitations  and make the best of a bad situation.

I had the flu this Spring with pneumonia and a fever for 5 days. It seemed to exacerbate the M.S. I was fatigued, out of balance with some double vision problems. I don’t tell you this so I can whine about it, it’s just the way it was. I set my mind to go back to when I was first diagnosed in 1999. How did I conquer the symptoms then?  Prayer, exercise, vitamins and antioxidants. The neurologist wanted to put me on injections to prevent worsening of the disease, I declined this offer. My first husband died of  infections which were compounded by meds that  suppressed his immune system. This was my choice, I am not telling you to do this.

I have always continued my vitamins and prayer. I now sought Father God my healer more, I consistently took my vitamins and antioxidants, started a mild exercise regime and pushed through. I’m not being critical of any who have a chronic or critical disease, I just want to encourage you to do what you can. Put one foot in front of the other (which with M.S. is sometimes a challenge.) Get support from family or friends, a support group or people who know what you are going through. Pray or meditate. God will give peace and strength.

Don’t wear yourself out fretting. Acceptance can give you peace and rest and eases whatever situation you find yourself in.

I now have more energy, less problems with balance or vision. Be overwhelmed with peace, not your circumstances. I have hope and anticipation of the future and what life holds!

Many grandparents raising grandchildren have health issues. It’s a challenge amidst the many of bringing up baby. My mother cares for three great grandkids most of the time. They live with her. She read “Flowers for Algernon” and it filled her with a whole new compassion for these kids who truly need her. She has decided the kids might be moved out next year and she will miss them like crazy. So she has chosen to enjoy the young ones placed in her care. She has accepted them with all the challenges that come with them. She is making a difference in their future and therefore the world around her. If she can do this at 84 years old we can press through what we’re dealing with to victory!
