Relief from Grief
After my son died I found myself doing many things, such as planning a funeral and buying diapers. We got guardianship of his 18 month old son, our grandson Anthony. It was challenging to mourn and run after a toddler. Our world was turned upside down. Grief creates a wound that requires a healing balm that is unique to every individual. Time, amount, type of mourning varies in as many ways as grief is experienced. There are many losses that manifest symptoms of grief, not death only but divorce, disease or disappointments to name a few.
I am writing a book on helping children grieve. What do you think? I could not find one out there to meet my need for Anthony after his daddy died. It will be from Anthony’s perspective and illustrated by his cousin Leevi who is 11. It would draw children’s interest to a place they did not even know they needed to go. At the end I will review a few steps to help you as adults with your hurts and apply a healing balm to your wounds and therefore help the little ones you hold so dear. Here’s a few ideas to start with.
1) PRAY: This was the first thing I did when my son died. I needed reassurance that he was in heaven. I got that and more. I know he is more alive than ever! I also got comfort and guidance as God sustained me.
2) CONNECTIONS: Like a link in a chain that holds it together, connections are crucial to hold it together for you. Connect to family, friends, counselors, or support groups. Do what works for you whether you feel like it or not, feelings will follow.
3) JOURNAL: Express yourself without condemnation in a private diary. This allows you to let it all out and gives you the ability to sort through many emotions. You may be surprised at how an answer may come.
4) EXERCISE: You don’t have to do aerobics for goodness sakes, I know I can’t. Take a walk or put one foot in front of the other. Put yourself in sunshine, blue skies, red flowers, and laughing people and it will lift your spirits and your emotions.
God Bless you and yours in your journey to healing your hurts and having a breakthrough. Psalm 147:3 “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” Please let me know what you think about the book on helping hurting kids with grief. Thanks!
Love, Debbie

❤️ children have grief. My foster children have much . They are survivors and some how we love them thru it and care and teach them. There are tough days for all of us but u just keep going steadfast with prayers and hope for their future of a beautiful happy stable life. And the lessons they have learned so they can pass them on as adults.
