How do you have a successful, satisfying life when you’re consumed by sadness that it’s so short? It seems you need more time to accomplish things and your life is vanishing away. I recently went to a festival with lots of young families and their kids. There was a sense of sadness that I’m nearing seventy, in the Fall of my life and they are just beginning, in the Spring of their lives. It was just yesterday my kids went off to Kindergarten and now it’s my great-grandkids. I would not want to do it over again, that’s not an option anyway. Here’s seven steps you can take on the ladder of life that gets you to your destination with satisfying success and no regrets, and they all start with V for victory.
How you view life affects every area. What you believe becomes your reality. The most powerful and victorious position is to know that this life is not all there is. It’s laying the groundwork for all eternity where you will rule and reign with the God who created you. Life now in union with Jesus is spectacular but think of having it for all eternity. My son died at 35 and he’s more alive than ever! Considering this shifts your timeline to timeless.
It’s fine to remember the past with fondness but you must have a vision for your life and your future. Find your purpose and passion, what motivates you and gives you a reason to get out of bed in the morning. Push into what provides excitement, energy or youth despite your number of years.
You are made for relationship so visit someone and strengthen connections that will strengthen you. If babies aren’t touched they can die, if you don’t do something that touches God and others a part of you will die. There is joy in celebrating each other as God celebrates you, “ He will take great delight in you;…he..will rejoice over you with singing” (Zephaniah 3:17, NIV ).
Your looks on the outside will shift with age but your value as a child of God will never wither. You are always precious and valued no matter what. Accept aging and find beauty in every phase of life. The best beauty is a smile, it’s contagious, go infect someone today.
Veto the voice that says you’re not able or you’re worthless. You have an enemy that seeks to steal, kill or destroy. You are perfectly able to live in victory and vitality with Jesus who came to give you life abundant (See John 10:10).
Have the courage to open each day you’re given like the treasured gift it is. Rifle through every moment, every day with excitement and exhilaration. Anticipating the magnificent leads to magnificence.
You are more than a conqueror through Jesus and death has lost its sting (See Romans 8). That conquering includes the stresses or diseases of this world that may weigh you down. Taking care of yourself will make this life more enjoyable and ward off disease. Eating right, exercise and focusing on positive emotions can decrease inflammation and illness in your body.
The most important decision you make is to surrender your life to Jesus and ask Him to be your Savior. Then His resurrection is your resurrection and you have marvelous life in union with him that brings victory and vitality now and forever (See Colossians 3). It won’t matter if you’re one or one hundred you’re on the greatest journey ever my friend.
